About Me
Forough amin
Dr. Forough Amin is the founder of Iranian Women in NZ (IWIN), a charitable trust dedicated to empowering Farsi-speaking women. She holds a PhD in Language and Communication from AUT and served as a university lecturer in Iran for 11 years before moving to New Zealand in 2015.
Driven by her experience as a migrant woman, Forough founded IWIN in 2020 to create a safe space for Farsi-speaking women in New Zealand to connect, share, and grow together. Her goal is to foster a supportive community where women can empower each other and thrive.
A passionate researcher and advocate for women’s rights, Forough focuses on women’s issues in the Muslim world. Her deep concern for the situation of women and girls, especially those in distressing circumstances, drives her work. She examines the impact of social, cultural, and political systems on women’s lives.
Since the start of the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in Iran in 2022, Forough has been a vocal advocate for the Iranian people. She has been involved in organising rallies and lobbying the government as well as giving media interviews and writing articles to raise awareness and support for the cause.
Currently, her focus is on the Middle East and the impact of radical Islamism on the people and geopolitics of the region.
This blog is a space for Forough to share her thoughts and views with those are interested in women’s issues.
